We're really excited to be doing another large event next week! It's all systems go. All our bigger trees are zooming off for a designer event. It's such a great feeling to gain another contract based on detail and quality! I'll blog how it goes and post a photo. (Cross your fingers for us) And thanks for the offers of hands-on help from friends & neighbours.

Levens hall gardeners clip their amazing historic topiary from August and throughout the winter. I'm told that this flies against traditional thinking but hey - they are from the 17th century! What a tribute to their topiary skills.

I will subject a couple of spirals to a winter clipping and watch the result.

To trim or not to trim to be trim.

Just a thought or two.

It's just a touch late to trim up one's topiary trees now that September is half way through. Perhaps an odd snip or two but that's about it till next April. Time to check that boxwood topiary in pots have enough compost & space to make some healthy root growth over winter. If you can, raise pots a little on "feet" or stones to allow good drainage and fewer spaces for the pests to overwinter. You can also treat them to a little liquid seaweed conditioner - those extra minerals help to keep plants healthy & resistant to disease.
